Taylor Swift released the Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) Tracklist on Monday and fans everywhere of Hayley Wiliams are excited to hear her feature on a previously unreleased song with the pop star. Williams, a year older than thirty-three-year-old pop star Taylor Swift, and lead vocals for the rock band Paramore, has long spoken highly of Swift over media. Swift announced the tracks for her own version of the original 2010 album including 16 originals and six additional songs “From the Vault” through an Instagram post, along with a picture of the back cover.

She said of the songwriters joining her, “Since Speak Now was all about my songwriting, I decided to go to the artists who I feel influenced me most powerfully as a lyricist at that time and ask them to sing on the album.” Swift enlisted the help of Williams on the new song “Castles Crumbling,” as well as rock band Fall Out Boy for “Electric Touch.”

The friendship between Williams and Swift spans all the way back to a 2008 Grammy Party where Swift’s mother approached the band members of Paramore and insisted they meet her daughter. Williams discussed this moment on stage while opening the first date of Swift’s “Era’s Tour” with Paramore. She said of the party, “I met someone as I was leaving and she said to me, ‘My daughter, she just played and she’s just getting started and she doesn’t really know anybody in the business. I just really want her to be around people her age that are doing the same thing’” (per YouTube).

The two exchanged numbers and remained friends through Paramore’s rocky breakups and lawsuits from 2015-2017. Both artists started in the industry around the same time; Williams releasing All We Know is Falling with Paramore in 2006, and Swift releasing her self-titled debut album that same year. The Era’s Tour feature comes after Paramore went quiet for some five years, releasing a new album, This is Why, in February of this year.
